Carbon Reduction Plan · PPN 06/21
Our commitment to Net Zero
GEM Environmental Building Services Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
This Carbon Reduction Plan sets out our baseline emissions, our current reporting position,
our reduction targets and the projects we are delivering to get there.
Net Zero target
Baseline tCO2e (2025)
Reduction by 2031
We are finalising our emissions calculations and are awaiting outstanding supply chain data.
The figures below are our best estimate from the data collected and analysed to date.
This Carbon Reduction Plan is expected to be finalised by 1 September 2026.
Baseline emissions footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases produced before any strategies to reduce
emissions were introduced. They are the reference point against which our reductions are measured.
| Emissions | Total (tCO2e) |
|---|---|
| Scope 1 |
345.30 Fuel data 128,844.9 litres at 2.68 kgCO2e per litre. |
| Scope 2 |
10.11 Electricity data 57,128 kWh at 0.177 kgCO2e/kWh. |
| Scope 3 (included sources) |
9.60 Categories 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Awaiting information from our supply chain to calculate the Category 1 figure. |
| Total emissions | 365.01 |
Current emissions reporting
The figures below cover the first six months of 2026 and are therefore not directly comparable
with the full-year 2025 baseline. On an annualised basis our 2026 emissions are projected at
approximately 259 tCO2e, a reduction of around 29% against baseline. Full-year 2026
figures will be published once the reporting year closes.
| Emissions | Total (tCO2e) |
|---|---|
| Scope 1 |
121.60 Fuel data 45,372.9 litres over 6 months at 2.68 kgCO2e per litre. |
| Scope 2 |
4.53 Electricity data 25,595 kWh over 6 months at 0.177 kgCO2e/kWh. |
| Scope 3 (included sources) |
6.40 Category 4 — 1.1 · Category 5 — 0.1 · Category 6 — 0.1 (very limited non-fleet travel) · Category 7 — 5.1 · Category 8 — 0.0. Awaiting information from our supply chain to calculate the Category 1 figure. |
| Total emissions | 132.53 |
Emissions reduction targets
To continue our progress towards Net Zero we have adopted the following carbon reduction target.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to
208.5 tCO2e by 2031 — a reduction of 43% against our 2025 baseline.
Carbon reduction projects
Over the coming years GEM Environmental Building Services Ltd is committed to reducing its
greenhouse gas emissions through a programme of continuous environmental improvement.
Planned initiatives include:
- Continue transitioning the company vehicle fleet to low and zero-emission vehicles where operationally feasible, replacing older petrol and diesel vehicles with hybrid and fully electric alternatives.
- Optimise vehicle routing, scheduling and job allocation to reduce unnecessary mileage, fuel consumption and associated carbon emissions across our London operations.
- Promote eco-driving practices through driver awareness training, regular vehicle maintenance and tyre pressure monitoring to improve fuel efficiency.
- Improve energy efficiency within our office by maintaining LED lighting, energy-efficient equipment and smart heating controls, and encouraging staff to minimise unnecessary energy consumption.
- Increase recycling and reduce waste by improving segregation of office and operational waste streams, minimising single-use materials and working with licensed waste contractors to maximise recycling rates.
- Work with suppliers to source lower-carbon products and materials where technically and commercially appropriate, whilst encouraging suppliers to demonstrate their own environmental commitments.
- Continue to prioritise local recruitment and local delivery of services, reducing employee commuting distances and travel-related emissions.
- Increase the use of digital documentation, electronic job management systems and paperless working to reduce paper consumption and associated waste.
- Review carbon emissions annually using the latest UK Government GHG Conversion Factors, setting measurable reduction targets and monitoring progress as part of our environmental management processes.
